On March 27, 2024, Elsevier released the much-anticipated 2023 "Highly Cited Chinese Researchers" list. Associate Professor Abbas Ali Chandio from the college Economics was selected as one of the highly cited researchers in the field of applied economics for 2023.
Abbas Ali Chandio, a vital member of the "Rural Finance and Risk Management Research Team" led by Professor Jiang Yuansheng, is currently serving as an associate professor at college of economics. The team is currently undertaking eight projects funded by the National Social Science Fund and the National Natural Science Fund. It has also been selected as an innovative cultivation team under the university's "Double Support Plan," providing ample research funding and stable support. The team engages in both applied foundational research in rural finance and risk management and fundamental and exploratory research. Dr. Chandio, along with Professor Jiang Yuansheng, has conducted extensive interdisciplinary research in various fields such as agricultural finance, inclusive finance, technology finance, climate economics, and risk management. The research spans across China, South Asian countries, ASEAN countries, with a particular focus on climate economics and finance. They have conducted continuous comparative studies across eras, countries, and regions on climate risks in the food sector, the effectiveness of agricultural adaptation strategies to climate change, and the effectiveness of climate financing. The outcomes have been published in internationally renowned journals such as the International Journal of Climate Change Strategy and Management, Technology in Society, Computers and Electronics in Agriculture, Journal of Cleaner Production, and Environment, Development and Sustainability, with individual papers cited over 200 times. In March of this year, a collaborative paper by Dr. Abbas Ali Chandio and Professor Jiang Yuansheng titled "Digital agriculture for sustainable development in China: The promise of computerization" was published in the N1 journal "Technology in Society." This research, employing methods such as FGLS, D-K, and Dumitrescu-Hurlin causality tests, explores the asymmetric and long-term impacts of computer technology on grain production in China. The study found that computer technology has played a positive role in increasing crop productivity, optimizing grain production supply chain management, and reducing waste through precision agriculture technology, which is significant for addressing climate change, optimizing agricultural production, reducing transaction costs, and promoting sustainable agriculture development.
Elsevier's "Highly Cited Chinese Researchers" list has been published continuously for ten years since its debut in 2015. Based on the globally authoritative citation and indexing database Scopus, the list comprehensively analyzes and identifies the research performance of Chinese scholars from multiple dimensions. This year's list covers 10 disciplines and 84 primary disciplines designated by the Ministry of Education, aiming to provide a more intuitive display of the academic research ecology of Chinese disciplines and bring more outstanding scholars in subdivided disciplines with Chinese characteristics into the public eye.
Associate Professor Abbas Ali Chandio's inclusion not only affirms his personal academic achievements but also reflects the remarkable achievements of the school in promoting the construction of the discipline of applied economics through research team building and internationalization of the faculty. The school will continue to integrate education, technology, and talent work, attract high-quality faculty to engage in high-level research, cultivate high-quality talents, continuously improve the academic level and influence of the school, and achieve high-quality development. At the same time, the school will also strengthen exchanges and cooperation with well-known universities and research institutions at home and abroad, promote the internationalization of economic research, and make positive contributions to the cultivation of more outstanding talents with international perspectives and innovative abilities.
